    Seattle Center needs Center Park!

Let's knock down the Fun Forest pavilion, take up the asphalt, and create a 4.6-acre urban green in that public space, plus the adjoining park already to the west. Moreover, Seattle Center’s own Master Plan, unanimously adopted by the City Council after a two-year planning effort, calls for green... more

Keep the Conservatory at Volunteer Park Open

So many of these ideas are about creating a better future. What about maintaining what is beautiful and good for this city? It's a warm, quiet and beautiful place. We should maintain and preserve it for the future. Closing it would be shortsighted.

    zip line

Seattle should create a zip line in one of our parks (consider one of the many parks along lake washington or possibly near the zoo. Having a zip line in the city would be relatively inexpensive (I've contacted a provider and gotten some quotes on construction and insurance, which is reasonable)... more

No Chihuly showcase in Seattle Center (should use some empty office space); KEXP+green space good id

Chihuly belongs in a different setting; and I find it offensive to consider Seattle Center. KEXP proposal is community-oriented and would attract people. There is not a profit motive. And the plan includes Green Space.

Open more off-leash dog parks with beach access

My dog loves to swim, and I really enjoy taking her to the beach. We have such an abundance of waterfront parks and beaches in this wonderful city, but areas for dogs to play in the water are few and far between. Currently dogs aren't even allowed at public beaches in the city, and dog-friendly w... more

Open the Shore line Drive at Seward Park for car traffic

This looped road is currently nicely paved and will allow everyone access to a great beach on the north shore. The road should be one way to maintain a smooth flow. The beach is currently under utilized and there is already a large brick bathroom there. This will be a great place to go, even whi... more

    Fremont Shrine to Drug Use

Given all the ideas for legalization of marijuana, nude beaches, and other 1960's era ideas, why not have a statue built in Fremont dedicated to a pot-smoking hippie. The hippie would be nude, with a joint in its mouth and it would blast the lyrics to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. This hipp... more

PRESERVE and reinforce a portion of the VIADUCT and CONVERT it into an elevated PARK or PROMENADE

Why are we tearing down the ENTIRE viaduct structure just to replace it with more road infrastructure? Why is Seattle's solution to everything always "scrape and rebuild"? I propose that we get creative and actually preserve some of the existing structure for reuse. At some point the ... more

    Community Centers

Piggyback on existing community center advisory boards or create an oversight committee for community centers to 1) create a volunteer workforce to meet some staffing needs, 2) increase awareness of rental/event opportunities at community centers and 3) partner community centers with local busine... more

Create more P-Patches, reform existing ones

Three years is an unacceptable wait time. People need spaces to grow local, healthy food for their communities in times of economic hardship. There are plenty of organizations here willing to teach gardening for free and mentor new gardeners, but we need spaces for the gardening to happen.

    Maintain the Parks we have

Seattle already has many parks that are under-maintained due to lack of funding for gardening and laborer staff. Before buying new park property that we cannot maintain, let's apply resources to the parks we already have.

Use low yield thermonuclear warheads for 4th of july fireworks

We could lessen our nuclear arsenal by using very low yield thermonuclear warheads as fireworks for 4th of July celebrations.
Several Atomic Elements can even color the airbursts. Also would have no CO2 emissions compared to conventional fireworks.I suggest detonating them in space perhaps 500 m... more

Build a BMX Bicycle racetrack surrounded by a climbing wall with an overhead zip-line

Give people an opportunity for exercise by replacing Memorial Stadium w/ a BMX race track, mountain bike track, surrounded with a climbing wall & overhead zip-line

    Open up Off Road opportunities

Support the opening up of some public lands and Forest Service roads to ORV use. Raise money by charging an additional use fee for the privelege. This is an untapped fiscal resource.

    warm water therapy pool(s)

Many Seattle residents who are disabled and/or elderly cannot use the public pools because the water is too cold. Bellevue and Mountlake Terrace have special warm water public pools. Would be great if Seattle could offer the same service to Seattle residents.

rethink the "walk in the park" policy

Living near Volunteer park I note this policy: 1) cuts off half the park from the handicapped
    2) floods the area with cars filling the already scant area parking anytime there is any event
    3) no apparent benefits to this policy here

Create safe neighborhood spaces, venues, and events for our youth.

Over the last fifteen years, I have watched what few all ages and youth-oriented spaces available shrink to near nothing. Parks restrict access and are not weather friendly year round, community centers are not maintained and offer little to teenagers, and the majority of options left to them ar... more

A solid plan to revitalize Seattle Center

At one time this was the most visited area in the state. IMO, it still is but other things are catching up. It's lost the Sonics, Thunderbirds and Fun Forest recently and needs some attention. An ice rink outside the Space Needle, a major hotel, updates to the Monorail station, Key Arena, an E... more
