replace the fun forest at seattle center with modern amusement park, instead of getting rid of it!
i'd love to see a really amazing rollercoaster and other great rides go into seattle center where the fun forest is (momentarily, i believe it is about to be torn down?), keep it small in footprint, but make the area a local entertainment destination again.

Last summer, my kids finally got old enough to ride some of the little rides at the fun forest, and they loved it. Some of the rides (the boat ride) are horribly decrepit, but fixing some of them up and replacing a couple would be really nice. Replacing some of the carny games (baloon popping with darts, ring tosses) might be a smart move, but keeping some decent rides is a good idea.

There is already a plan to upgrade Seattle Center.
You can read the plan at the following link to see if it includes some of the improvements you are thinking about:

Accelerating the implementation of the plan would be a way to create jobs in the area.

glad to see that there is some support for this! thanks guys! i think it would be really beneficial to the city, especially for families, underage kids, and the whole new population that's going to be working in southlake union soon. we'd be one of the few cities that can walk to such an attraction from downtown.

While I am not opposed to more green space downtown, closing the fun forest (and replacing it with green space) will be a real loss for Seattle families. We can't expect to keep drawing people back into the center of town if we do not support a variety of activities to attract them - kids included. Of course it won't appeal to everybody, but neither does Key Arena or the Space Needle. A modernized fun forest would not have to include costly attractions like a huge roller coaster; there are many less ... more

Sometimes I think Seattle is not that family friendly.

I completely agree with you Lara. When the World's Fair ended the city agreed to keep an amusement park. I worked for quite a while with the Center to allow us to replace the park, while also providing more green space. However, the Mayor and council had no interest.
