Bring back community policing.
Get the officers out of patrol cars and out walking and riding beats. A physical presence on the street deters crime.
Have officers patrol the same areas over time so they get to know residents, merchants and criminals.

Please target the area around Rainier Ave S and Henderson. There is just too much violent crime in the this community.

How about we get the officers out of their fireboats and out walking beats? In the last ten years, Harbor unit staffing has gone up by 10 and they bought two new fireboats. Maybe those law enforcement officers can be better used enforcing laws.

Staff the police Dept with more patrol personnel that would provide more flexibility to develop community policing, pro active units and other community based programs where they are needed needed based on crime rates rather than perception. Give law enforcement a pro active strategy rather than reactive where all that is done is taking reports for the insurance companies.

Community policng as a priority creates a spirit of mutual support and partnership between officers and neighbors that I believe lends a sense of shared responsibiity for preventing crime. I heartily support this as an effective and productive use of scarce resources.
