I think Occidental Park in Pioneer Square would be a great place to have a street food scene.

As an aspiring food vendor I was surprised at the lack of support from the city. Come on Seattle, don't make me move to Portland :(

I was just in portland, and their parking lots lined on the outer edges with food trucks turn asphalt wastelands into vibrant takeout food streets of my dreams! How did portland do it? why don't we?

It sounds like the challenge is to get the county public health department to lower the requirments, and for the the city gov. to create and outreach and training campaighn. If you make it transparent and easy to start a food cart, you will have a local food system revolution on your hands.

I am not sure if there are any formal case studies on PDX / metro transition to easy foodcart start up process, but they sprout like mushrooms in my neighborhood because the PROCESS of applying is so easy and cheap. Street carts would work great in all those strange little alleys you Seattlites have. Good luck!

Work with King County Public Health to allow for street food vending that doesn't require a triple sink AND a handwashing sink. Basically, if you don't have a bus converted into a kitchen you can't sell food on the street (except for hot dogs). Nearly every other city in the world allows for food carts and other sorts of street food. We should be able to walk downtown and grab a stick of chicken satay from a cart, for instance.

I see a bunch of street vending available in Seattle - and I don't understand exactly what "support" this idea is about... It's got a ton of votes so I must be missing something. Can this idea get a bit more information added to it? I really do want to undersand what so many people think is such an important idea...

My wife looked into opening a street vendor selling food, and was discouraged at the process needed. Let’s provide a way to promote street vending by providing some assistance in the process through street use permits, health department permits, locating a commercial kitchen, business licenses, etc…..

Let's have some falafel vendors like in NYC. yummy.

Looove the taco truck style food. Don't know how green it is, but I'm sure it can easily be made very green.
