Keep the Conservatory at Volunteer Park Open
So many of these ideas are about creating a better future. What about maintaining what is beautiful and good for this city? It's a warm, quiet and beautiful place. We should maintain and preserve it for the future. Closing it would be shortsighted.

Create a lid over I-5 in Seattle
I-5 creates a divide between Downtown Seattle/Lake Union and the densely populated Capitol Hill area. A lid should be placed over it (from Pike St to Mercer St or further) and have the lid contain a large open park with features such tennis courts, baseball fields and other related recreational facillities.

City-funded public farmer's markets
The City has operated a public farmer's market in Pike Place since 1907, but since then a multitude of privately organized farmer's markets have sprung up throughout Seattle's neighborhoods. These markets are often voluntary organizations, depending on available parking lots to exist, and are on... more

Seattle Center needs Center Park!
Let's knock down the Fun Forest pavilion, take up the asphalt, and create a 4.6-acre urban green in that public space, plus the adjoining park already to the west. Moreover, Seattle Center’s own Master Plan, unanimously adopted by the City Council after a two-year planning effort, calls for green... more

Expand the P-Patches to micro-gardens
In Ballard many people are offering small areas of their yard for small garden spaces. These are smaller than the regular P-Patches and are being managed by a small group.
Since P-Patches have a long waiting list, can we expand the idea to smaller plots?

replace the fun forest at seattle center with modern amusement park, instead of getting rid of it!
i'd love to see a really amazing rollercoaster and other great rides go into seattle center where the fun forest is (momentarily, i believe it is about to be torn down?), keep it small in footprint, but make the area a local entertainment destination again.

Use parks and open space funds to buy 5265 18th Ave SW property for the Puget Ridge Edible Park.
Sustainable Puget Ridge in West Seattle is writing a grant to purchase available property to establish an edible park, P.R.E.P., Puget Ridge Edible Park. This would be a multi grassroots group research and educational center for urban farming and local food production.

Innovative new ideas for parks
Start thinking about new ways of creating more parks like the park that is coming to Bell St. in Belltown. Then, expand those ideas to the neighborhoods.

Plant trees all over Seattle, especially in the downtown urban core.
A large and healthy tree canopy is an environmentally beautiful and economically beneficial urban asset. Let's promote expanding our urban tree canopy by actively promoting it's benefits, providing appropaiate no cost varieties to shovel-wielding Seattleites, and digging up lots of small and lar... more

Develop green space on Seattle's waterfront
The viaduct is coming down in 2015. We need to take advantage of the opportunity to create parks and walkable space along Puget Sound to promote urban density and create a beautiful and vibrant downtown.

Turn the Burke Gilman Trail overgrowth in Wallingford into a P-Patch.
The area that is currently overgrown with vines and small trees along the trail in Wallingford would be a great space for a terraced P-Patch garden.

Create More Mini-Dog Parks
We need small off-leash areas throughout our neighborhoods. These would be a city lot or two in size, be adopted by the neighbors (supported by those volunteers) and much, much smaller in scale than the limited current mega-dog parks like Magnuson. No extra parking, simple fence, trash cans, an... more

PRESERVE and reinforce a portion of the VIADUCT and CONVERT it into an elevated PARK or PROMENADE
Why are we tearing down the ENTIRE viaduct structure just to replace it with more road infrastructure? Why is Seattle's solution to everything always "scrape and rebuild"? I propose that we get creative and actually preserve some of the existing structure for reuse. At some point the ... more

Have the parks department maintian and landscape school grounds
The school district is in the bad habit of deferring maintenance both on buildings and grounds keeping whenever the budget is tight. This leads to weed brown grass, bare dirt, and weed choked planting beds.
While it won't even address the building maintenance issues I believe by having the city p... more -

Maintain the Parks we have
Seattle already has many parks that are under-maintained due to lack of funding for gardening and laborer staff. Before buying new park property that we cannot maintain, let's apply resources to the parks we already have.

Open more off-leash dog parks with beach access
My dog loves to swim, and I really enjoy taking her to the beach. We have such an abundance of waterfront parks and beaches in this wonderful city, but areas for dogs to play in the water are few and far between. Currently dogs aren't even allowed at public beaches in the city, and dog-friendly w... more

Utilize more space under bridges and elevated roads
The Colonnade mountain bike park under I-5 is a great example of how to use wasted public space.
We have other spaces under freeways, bridges, and elevated roads that could be used for skateboard parks, mountain bicycling parks, basketball courts, and other community places. Some of these, like... more

Open the Shore line Drive at Seward Park for car traffic
This looped road is currently nicely paved and will allow everyone access to a great beach on the north shore. The road should be one way to maintain a smooth flow. The beach is currently under utilized and there is already a large brick bathroom there. This will be a great place to go, even whi... more
